Custom mahogany Chippendale style breakfront bookcase by Old Colony Furniture Co.

This superb breakfront is equally at home in a dining room displaying china and crystal or in  a library displaying your favorite books.  Its depth (only 13 inches at deepest) means this breakfront will fit in many rooms where a deeper breakfront would take up too much space.

The magnificent flame mahogany lower doors are trimmed with applied mouldings and rosettes and open to reveal  cupboards with one adjustable shelf.  The upper doors contain eighteen individually glazed pieces of glass in geometric pattern and open to reveal three adjustable shelves.  All shelves have plate groove.  The satinwood fret-carved pediment is surrounded by  carved rosettes and urn in mahogany.

87" high x 13" deep x 66" wide.
Incomparable custom mahogany Sheraton style sideboard or server attributed to Joseph Gerte CoJoseph Gerte was one of Boston's finest custom furniture makers.  In 1918 Joseph Gerte worked as a wood turner for the famed furniture scholar and maker Wallace Nutting.  A few years later, Mr. Gerte set up his own shop on Boston's Charles Street, just a few doors down from the famed antique dealer, Israel Sack, before moving to Albany Street.  Mr. Gerte repaired antiques and made extremely high quality custom furniture for the privileged few.

This striking Joseph Gerte Co. demilune sideboard features a highly figured mahogany top cross-banded with rosewood and set off by fine inlaid lines of satinwood and ebony.  Contains a single drawer in the center which is partitioned for silver and two small cupboards (one in each end).  The drawer front and cupboard doors are made of burled walnut and each has an inlaid urn with flame.  The frieze is inlaid with a continuous motif of intertwined ribbons and bellflowers.  The legs are gracefully reeded and tapered and are further ornamented with carved paterae and acanthus leafage.   The dovetails in the drawer are hand cut and exceedingly fine.
